Knoppix does a fine job with sound and has for a long time. People have made portable recording studios with it. If knoppix works with your equipment, just about any distribution can be made to work.
To try ALSA, use the boot option "knoppix=alsa" or a 2.6 kernel.
Dynebolic is another interesting live CD.
